Enjoy Evita’s Italian Cuisine with JN Rewards

Opened in 1989 by Italian, Eva Myers, Evita’s Italian Restaurant is the only food spot in the tourist town of Ocho Rios that serves up fine Italian and ‘Jam-Italian’ (fusion of Jamaican and Italian) dishes.

Built in the 1860s, the historic semi open-air building which houses the restaurant was formerly a house and subsequently an inn.  Apart from a few renovations, the original structure of the building has remained intact, and a visit to this food paradise visually takes us back in time to the 1800s when Georgian architecture dominated the Jamaican landscape. With just a few steps down some cut-stone steps beneath a wooden shed, you’ll arrive at a cottage-like structure which has wooden floors and an authentic mahogany bar. There, you are greeted and ushered to your seats by the most welcoming waiters!

The restaurant is decorated with a “wall of fame” that bears photographs of the owner/employees and several local and international celebrities who have visited the restaurant such as, Sean Paul, Naomi Campbell, Princess Margret and Kate Moss.  Crockery, paintings and plants hang from different sections in the restaurant, as well as dimly lit, antique lanterns.

One of the most interesting things about Evita’s is the beautiful view from the location. The eatery sits atop an unbeaten path which has a panoramic, postcard-worthy view of Ocho Rios; overlooking the cruise pier and the town. If not for the food, people definitely visit for the spectacular scenery! The setting is perfect for a group of friends or family members. It is also an excellent spot for a romantic dinner, as the dining tables are candle lit in the evenings and sweet jazz or melodic reggae music sets the mood.

Even though it is dubbed “The best little pasta house in Jamaica”, Evita’s has a dish for everyone; ranging from seafood, poultry and vegetarian dishes. Some of the most popular dishes are:  Suprema Seafood Pasta, a combination of lobster, shrimp and mussels simmered in a tasty tomato sauce served on pasta of choice, zucchini noodles, carved from zucchini; Lasagna Rastari, which is made from colourful vegetables and pasta; Jerk Spaghetti and organic Kale and Sweet Potato Soup.

Evita’s Italian Restaurant is one of many JN Rewards partners. With just a swipe of your JN card, you can enjoy a range of meals at a discounted price! We visited the restaurant during this year’s JN-sponsored Restaurant Week and had some tantalising dishes. After complimentary garlic bread with a green cheese dip, we were given starters. We had the Red Peas Chicken Soup, shredded chicken in a hearty broth and Mozarella in Carozza - breaded and fried mozzarella.

For entrees, we chose the Fettucine Contessa ,which comprises a whole lobster and shrimps sautéed in olive oil and rich marinara tomato sauce, served with Fettucine pasta; and Ja Curry Suprema - chicken and shrimp sautéed in a curry and white wine sauce served with Herbed Rice.   Both dishes were absolutely delicious!

Then it was time for dessert!  We indulged in a plain cheesecake topped with tropical fruits and a warm, chocolate croissant pudding served with vanilla ice-cream.  I can still taste that divine piece of warm pudding. Yum!  The contrasting temperatures in the pudding and ice cream complemented each other well!

The service at the restaurant is impeccable and Eva herself walks the entire restaurant, stopping at each table to ensure that all diners are comfortable and satisfied.

Evita’s Italian Restaurant is definitely worth the visit, and with the discounts you receive with your JN card, you should not miss this opportunity! Stop by on your next visit to Ocho Rios.
